Sun, February 12, 2012 at 10:18 PM The Fox meet was a fast meet for many of us. Our rest phase is quickly approaching for some of us. Now is the time to build your confidence by believing you can swim fast in practice. The sprint sets we will be doing over the upcoming weeks will be similar to ones we have already done, but the chance to push a little harder will be there. Swim practices knowing that the added speed you put in now will translate to faster races at the end of the year. There will be more rest between sets, so yards will decrease, but effort must remain.
I shouldn't need to say this, but attendance is key this time of year. The end is near and the work we are doing requires you all there. The group's overall attendance is great and I encourage you to keep it going strong.
Two weeks to the regional meet. Swimmers will be picking regional events with Coach Mark this week. Taper practices will begin on Thursday for those swimmers ending their seasons at regionals.
The week ahead:
Monday 6:30 @ NNHS - EN2 IM, SP1 free a
Tuesday 6:45 @ MVHS – SP1 IM or distance free, free kick, SP2 free
Wednesday p.m. 7:00 @ NCHS – SP1 free, Breast Drill
Thursday 6:45 @ MVHS – EN2 Kick, EN2 free, EN1 Primary
Friday 6:30 @ NNHS – EN2 IM, SP1 Primary
Saturday a.m. 8:00 @ MVHS – EN1 primary, SP1 free,
Lets have a great week of practice!

Wed, February 1, 2012 at 7:03 PM Correction: Saturday 2/5 10:00-12:00pm NNHS EN1 IM Quality 100's
Indy weekend has come and gone. The group had mixed results with Saturday morning having many swims that were disappointing. Maybe the coaches' expectations were too high, but many swims were not consistent with the level of intensity many of you have demonstrated in practice over the last 2 weeks. Last week the quality of speed in our focus sets was lacking on a few key swims. Though the practice intensity was up, perhaps the attention to detail is starting to decrease.
The finalists on Saturday night did a great job of turning the day around with many of the swims beating their final swims. We even had a few life time bests at night. Sunday was a better day all around. We really enjoyed having the majority of the group back for finals. Once again, finals brought some great swims to end the meet.
Remember the basics that we have worked on throughout the season: -underwater kicking: I noticed many swims lacking in their underwater kicks and breath control during the breakout phase -body position on turns: many turns were too close to the the wall and some pushes off the wall were started before getting into streamline position. -Executing a race plan: Many different items here. Some swims were too relaxed from the beginning. Some races the 1st 25's were forced. Forced for good reason, but being overly tense usually doesn't lead to fast swims.
This week: We are going to put a bit more focus on IM and race strategy. With only 4 weeks to regionals and 5 weeks to senior champs, you all need to focus on the basics.
Monday 1/30 6:30pm NNHS EN2 IM, EN2 free, En1 Kick Weights
Tuesday 1/31 6:45pm MVHS Lunges, Abs SP1 kick EN2 Primary Stroke or Distance Free SP1 Turns

Wed, January 25, 2012 at 10:49 AM This email contains important preliminary information regarding our team travel trip to the NCSA Junior Nationals in March.
The NCSA Junior National Meet runs from Tuesday March 20th – Saturday March 24th. It is being held at the Orlando YMCA Aquatic Center, 8422 International Dr., Orlando, FL. The meet information has yet to be posted but will be found in the near future at: http://ncsassociation.homestead.com/juniornationalsmain.html. The site also lists the time standards and bonus cut time standards. Each swimmer will also be able to time trial 2 events throughout the meet.
Hotel: I have rooms reserved under the Maverick Swim Club for swimmers and coaches checking in on 3/20 and checking out on 3/25. There are additional rooms available at the hotel. Swimmers will room together, 2 or 3 to a room. We are staying at the Homewood Suites by Hilton which is a 10 minute drive to the pool. The hotel offers complimentary breakfast each morning. The hotel information is listed below. Homewood Suites by Hilton 5893 American Way Orlando, FL 32819 (407)-226-6669
Flight: You will need to book your swimmers flights. Doug and I are flying on Southwest Airlines departing Tuesday, March 20th at 8:45 am (SWA #827), and I will be returning Sunday, March 25th at 6:15 a.m. (SWA #122). All swimmers not traveling with a parent will need to book on my flights. Any swimmer traveling with a parent will need to arrive at the hotel by 2:30 p.m. on 3/20. Please book your swimmers flight by Friday, February 3rd as flights will increase in cost and availability will diminish over the coming weeks.
Miscellaneous: I will calculate the cost per swimmer after I have a final swimmer count (may not be until early March as we should have some late qualifiers). You will then need to make a check payable to Maverick Swim Club and give it to Coach Mark prior to departure. This will cover the cost of lodging and local transportation only. Swimmers will be responsible for all of their own lunch and dinner expenses as well as any other miscellaneous expenses (meet shirts, time trial entry fees, etc.). Please contact Coach Mark with your travel plans if your swimmer will be attending the meet. Feel free to send me an email if you have specific questions.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 1/27-1/29 @ IUPUI (Circle City Classic Meet)
Some reminders for the Indy Meet:
1.) Indianapolis is on eastern time (1 hour ahead of us). 2.) Even if you are not scheduled to swim Friday night, it would be wise to come to Friday's warm up. This will help rid your body of any travel stiffness and will help you swim faster this weekend. 3.) Bring plenty of food and drink with you to the meet. 4.) Please clean up after yourself so our team area doesn't become a pig pen. 5.) Bring warm clothing to the pool as the deck can often be chilly. 6.) Finals are not optional. If you make finals, you swim finals.
Let's have a great week.
Mark and Doug
